Kathmandu Day Hiking Brief Insight

Kathmandu Day hiking is an outdoor activity that involves walking in the natural environment. Day hiking can be completed within a day. This is one of the easiest ways to explore the nearby mountains for hiking. As a result, we don’t need any overnight camps.

Kathmandu Day Hiking Tour is perfect for those looking for a taste of trekking in Nepal in a short period. Offering some traditional rural activities within sight of the metropolis with great mountain panoramic views.

Similarly, some of the Kathmandu day hikes are Phulchoki Hike, Champadevi Hike, and Nagarkot Hike. Similarly, Namobuddha, Dhulikhel, Sundarijal, and Kakani are excellent for other treks around Kathmandu.

Fairly easy trails take in an array of fascinating landscapes, ethnic settlements, and biodiversity. Also, the best thing about these trekking routes in Kathmandu is that you can do it.

On Kathmandu day hiking trails we can see the views of the Himalayas (8 of the 13 Himalayan ranges of Nepal from here). Include Annapurna Range, Manaslu Range, Ganesh Himal Range, Langtang Range, Jugal Range, Rolwaling Range, and Mahalangur Range (Mt Everest Range).

Additional Information

Namobuddha Day Walk:

Namoboudh is located in Panauti Hills. Located at a distance of 38 km in Kavre district, it is a very important Buddhist pilgrimage site. East of Kathmandu. Stupas and shrines built on this charming little hill are sufficiently marked as a very ancient holy place.

We drive about an hour and a half 35 kilometers east of Kathmandu to a place called Dhapasi. An old Newar town Panuti with a packed lunch box. Generally, from Dhapasi we follow an uphill road in a northeasterly direction, and the trail narrows. We cross a suspension bridge and pass through several small villages to a large rice field. Which gives you a chance to see how Nepali people plant and harvest crops. From here, one can reach Namobuddha by climbing uphill for about an hour. Return to Kathmandu or drive overnight to the resort of Dhulikhel.

Day Trek to Fulchoki (2782 m):

Phulchoki (2782 m) is a high mountain located in the south of Kathmandu Valley. This is the most beautiful hike in terms of vegetation in Kathmandu Valley. After breakfast at the hotel, drive with a packed lunch box to Godavari (Royal Botanical Garden) for about 30 minutes, 14 km south of Kathmandu.

From the Godavari, we begin our trek through the sub-tropical dense forest for about four hours. Apart from the beautiful view of the Kathmandu valley, one can see a panoramic view of the eastern part of the Annapurna range to Gaurishankar in the east throughout the day. After lunch, we wandered around for a while and after the same trek to Godavari, we returned to Kathmandu after walking for about 2 hours.

Day Trek to Champadevi (2285 m):

Champadevi, located southwest of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2285 meters, is a pilgrimage site with a Buddhist stupa and a Hindu shrine that commands many pilgrims to visit the place on a full moon day.

After breakfast at the hotel, we drive for about an hour with a lunch box to Pharping (on the way to Dakshinkali Temple), 16 km south of Kathmandu. From Pharping we begin our hike slowly for half an hour towards the northern ridge through the trail and pine forest area.

Basically, from here we continue the trek slowly following the trail for around 3 hours till Champadevi. Hence the view of the central and western Himalayan range is magnificent. After lunch and some sightseeing, continue the walk for about 2 hours to Hattivan and return to Kathmandu.

Day hike to Nagarjuna (2128m):

Nagarjuna Hill, also known as the historic Jamacho Peak (6,300ft/2128m), is a 2.5-hour and 15-minute drive northwest of Kathmandu. It offers an excellent view of the northern Himalayas and the Kathmandu Valley.

Jamacho Monastery on the top of the hill is considered sacred for Buddhists. Jamacho Monastery has many specific dates to gather many people for a special ceremony. This hill is called Nagarjuna hill because there is the cave abode of Nagarjuna, where he meditated. Apart from Nagarjuna cave, there are also Buddha and Mahasiddha caves.

Day Trek to Shivpuri (2563 m):

Shivpuri is the second-highest mountain around Kathmandu Valley at an altitude of 2563 meters north of Kathmandu. Baghdad, Shivpuri is located near the mouth of the holy Bagmati river.

Thus, after breakfast at the hotel, we drive for about 20 minutes to Budhanikanth Temple, 8 km north of Kathmandu. From Budhanilkanth we walk through Shivpuri Conservation Area. It is a government-protected forest where more than 500 species are found. We start our trek from the southern border of the area where there is an army check post.

Nagi Gumpa is located in the north of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2330 meters. And above the Budhanilkanth Temple is the only monastery for practicing Buddhist nuns and foreigners often come to meditate there. It is an uphill journey of about half an hour and two hours respectively to Shivpuri through narrow and dusty roads.

Nagarkot to Dhulikhel trek:

Nagarkot is 40 kilometers eastward from the main center of Kathmandu. Early morning drive from Kathmandu to see the Tower of Nagarkot. After seeing the view of the Himalayas from Nagarkot, we reach Dhulikhel. Dhulikhel Padayatra is a tourist paradise. Hence, the spectacular snow-capped mountains must be one of the best panoramic views in the world.

They seem to be floating in the air as blue smoke covers the lower part of the mountain. Panorama offers a magnificent unobstructed view. The Himalayan range extends from the Annapurna Mountains in the far west to the Karolung Mountains in the east. Thus more than 20 Himalayan peaks can be seen in full glory from different cities from Dhulikhel. In short, it has been a prime point for mountain-oriented sightseeing since time immemorial.
